What our customers say...

  • Hi Jeremy

Our start was awful and my helming on the first beat a little on the average side but some good tactics from Clive and his team of advisors kept us in contention. After the needles it was downwind all the way and the S1 was just brilliant. The main was also excellent giving us 2nd Place in Class One in the Cervantes Trophy.

p>We can report that the optimum point of performance for a White Sails S1 (.75oz Masthead) is 44 knots of wind speed. We would also advise that the boat should be sailed at approx 155 degrees true wind angle and crew should trim like buggery to maintain stability, but be prepared for gentle course deviations as boats broach and Chinese Gybe around you.

After the nose of the boat reappears from beneath the water and the hysterical screaming subsides one should expect a peak boat speed of 18 knots. This may of course be technically impossible for a 40' boat, but is no more unbelievable than that one would have ones biggest Masthead spinnaker flying in a force 9 gale. It is also imperative that the main is not reefed as this will allow optimum balance and sufficient power to drive the boat down into the water and increase waterline length.

Helm and crew are likely to experience a brief moment of euphoria before they realise; 'we can't actually get this thing down'. Fear not jolly and fearless sailors for help is at hand!!

As we know the good lord will not abide nature's laws being taken so lightly; expect an ear rendering and biblical bang, at least it would be ear rendering if it could be heard over the howl of the wind, as the spinnaker splits asunder from its control lines and all too suddenly (but gratefully) depowers the boat.

It now only remains to drop the main (whose leech is now torn) and send the latest person to join the crew aloft to retrieve was is now a 60' burgee!

Anyway Jeremy I hope this helps you amass further technical knowledge for your products.

Chris Shipman owner of Wave Length Sailing required a new Main and Mast Head Spinnaker for his Dehler 39SQ. Choosing a Carbon Membrane with Central Taffeta, Light Blade Jib, and Contender Superkote 90 Mast Head Spinnaker for his Fastnet campaign.

  • We fitted the new Sails for J-Spot, but the first time we sailed with them was the 10 Mile sail to the J-105 Nationals venue. I phoned Jeremy to say I was happy with the sails but unfortunately my electronics were playing up, and my Boat speed was over reading.

It wasn't until we went across the Start Line that we realised that the Boat speed was fine, we were reaching speeds that we had never hit before! Winning the J-105 Nationals with all the family on board was great fun, especially being awarded a Trophy presented by an Americas Cup Winning Sail-Loft.

  • I chose White Sails because of the time Jerry put into understanding what I really needed and how to get the most from my budget.

I went with all his recommendations and when we put the sails up I wasn't disappointed.

They looked great but results speak louder than looks and first outing we scored a first and a second.

It doesn't feel like I have just bought some sails, its more like I've gained a partner.

Dirk Van Beek owner of Sabriel Bavaria Match 42 chose Kevlar Membrane with Central Taffeta for his Main and Jib and Superkote 150 for his Reaching Spinnaker. Second Overall Class One Solent Racing Series
